Strange for Orion?

Hi,

some strange thing happened this night and I don´t know who it worked so
perhaps you might help me in getting my brain into the correct lanes.

The situation: (PHost 4, PList 2)
The Federation player was with a Draklor (Imerperial Assault) orbiting a
Borg base with no fuel on board. To refuel the Draklor was my task (Cylon /
Robot) with a cloaked Defiant destroyer (gotten from my ally the Fed). So
we wanted to perform a IMHO normal thing for us, proofen in many similar
situations: an Imperial Assault on this Borgs base.
Also orbiting beneath our own ships was a Borg Anhiliter Cube and a Mirinda
Researcher. For us everything was clear, next turn we are owner of the Borg
base because my cloaking Defiant transfers 1 KT of fuel to the allies
Draklor and he would perform the drop of 10 clans to perform the Imperial
Assault.

But what happens? We got a VCR with the Borg Ani-Cube fighting against the
Federation Draklor and destroying her approx. 20 lightyears north of the
Borgs base. So the Ani-Cibe towed the Draklor with an primary enemy set. My
Defiant didn´t transfer the 1 KT of fuel to the Draklor.

Open questions now are:
1. Why didn´t the transfer between our allied ships work?
2. Why was it possible, that the fuelless Draklor fought against the Cube?
3. The PHost 4.0h doucumentation mentions that the "Cargo Dump" happens
before the "Cargo Transfer". That would mean that the old trick for an
Imperial Assault wouldn´t ever work agein. Is that right?

I would be pleased if you were able to relight my brain.
Thanks in advance!

Well referring this....

If i were Borg and see an empty assaulter in Orbit i would:

-- Load this thing full of fuel

[then if my id was lower than yours, your transfer would fail]

-- and tow or chunnel it away to doom it in open space.

so there is nothing wrong happened. everything went right.

and if Phost Doku says 'transfer happens after cargodrop' then
its as it is. Phost is not known to have differences between
dokus and behave...

[hope this helped abit]

OK, that is the only thing I was thinking of, the lower ID.

But in many other situations it worked. According to the documentation it
should not work. Any hint for that?

Yes, it did. Thank you.

Hmm.... maybe your enemy advanced in 'being smart' ???

maybe it was t-host ? maybe you transfered from your own cloaker ? i dont
know i didnt know the other circumstances exactly....

anyway. i dont know the other circumstances but the ships you described
being in orbit, one should have wondered if this worked (g)

The docs should be fine. I didn't realize that this would trouble the
Assault; it didn't come up in the Empire game I'm playing as remote
control is not allowed.

Usually the Empire will control both the Imperial Assault ship and the
accompanying cloaker. Then the neutronium transfer will be resolved
client side, allowing the assault troups to prepare for their victory
celebration. :) My guess is that this was the case in the other
situations you talk about.

Sure that it did not work? You do not get messages for ship/ship transfer.

> 2. Why was it possible, that the fuelless Draklor fought against the Cube?

Because someone gave it fuel.

Right, that's the way it is, as far as I can tell.

You can only give him fuel client-side, i.e. if you have both ships in
your result file. They need not both be yours thanks remote control.

No, I am not sure, of course. I can only see the result of one KT more fuel
on board as it should be.

OK, that´s clear to me so far.

So I do unterstand, that it is not enough to be allied with the other ship.
Is that right?

Sort-of.

Sequence of actions is
Client-side actions
Ownership transfer, meteors, meteorites, anti-cloak, super-spy-deluxe
New natives, rob, gambling
Cargo drop (=imperial assault)
Cargo transfer
Cargo trimming, training
Beam-transfer missions (='btf')
Gather missions (='beam up fuel')
lots of other stuff

The only way to have the fuel transfer happen before 'Cargo drop' is to
make it a client-side action. Client-side fuel transfer requires you to
have both ships in your result. And the only way to have both ships in
your result is to (a) own them both or (b) control them both.
