I have compared them on newegg, but I'm not very computer savvy. The only differences I saw were that the Illusion had two front fans and it has blue LEDs. Is that it? Does that justify paying $10 more? I have heard that the Antec 300 is a very good budget case, quality materials. However, it looks a little bland and I would like something with a bit more flavor. Would you recommend the Antec 300 Illusion over the Antec 300?

the antec 300 illusion is just what you stated, a 300 with two blue antec tri-speed fans in front. in terms of airflow the illusion is a very hard case to beat and an excellent value. another case for you to look at would be the cooler master haf 912. its also a very nice case but having used/built with both i prefer the antec 300 build & fans. the haf 912 is easier to build in.

other cases to check out
NZXT has more non-bland cases in your price range. cases like the gamma & guardian

silverstone has the PS05-B also has a unique look

I would recommend the Antec 300 Illusion over the Antec 300. It is worth the $10 extra in my opinion. You look at the cost of say two Antec Tri-Cool fan, which is about $26 and you are looking at roughly $16 savings.

Yep the Illusion is worth the extra dough for the fans.
You kinda missed the boat cuz last week the 300 was $45 .

Wow, that NZXT Guardian is amazing. It looks so awesome. If it didn't have such expensive shipping, I would have bought that already.

I just saw at a store near me they have the HAF 912 on sale for $50. Is that something I should do? You mentioned it above. The only problem is, it lacks the sweet LEDs.

If you already have case fans, then you don't need the illusion.

Something else to keep in mind is there isn't good cable management in the 300. The backplate is solid so no routing cables on the other side. I found that out AFTER I bought my 300 and was hooking everything up. I don't know about the 912, I've never used it.

The HAF 912 is a solid buy for $50 it has a few nice features and better cable management then the 300.
The 300 can be easily modified with a decent drill and a bi-metal holesaw for cable management.

Which is fine if I buy some $20 POS case. But I wouldn't think I'd need to take a saw to an Antec.

its a good case and ive built a system in it. like i said its easy to build in but I found the front plastic kind of cheap, the sides are thin, and the fans are not as good (rear exhaust is also too high) as the antec's. it does have the removable HDD cage for larger video cards though and you can always store some unused PSU cables there.

Mine did, but that doesn't help route cables behind the mobo tray.
