Question, I have a phenom ii x4 955 be running overclocked 4.2 ghz. After one hour of prime 95 my max temp has reached 63c but mainly runs steady at 60c. Is this a good oc? I know its not really good to run over 63c. I have a zalman 9700 cooling the beast.

Sounds like a great overclock. What's your voltages?

Vcore if I remeber is 1.425 or something. If I go liquid I could pump it up a lot more

Just about OK at 63C in prime I would prefer to run it under 60C (55C ideal) but as long as you don't plan to be at maximum CPU useage for hours every day you should be OK.

I doubt you would notice the difference between 4.2GHz and 4GHz -- but if you can run 4GHz at 1.4v or less and drop temps 8-10c I think you will notice that in many ways.

The 'process' for Deneb has made some great refinements -- newer chips are hitting 4GHz at less than 1.4v (though the AMD 'Volt Wall' is still there). Squeezing that last several hundred MHz really costs you in voltage and heat.

I would assume a-lot lower since gaming never uses 100% of the cpu all the time like Prim95. I will check a little later and update ya.

Yeah, I use coretemp while running prime and my games. Its nice cause it gives u ur highest temp and shows what % the cores are running.

OK, so 2 hours 1.452 V @ 4.214GHZ overclocked from stock. I had a picture saved but for somereason it didn't save right? I may run prime again but thats a lot of extra stress. I also gamed for 2 hours on Battlefield and temps never went above 56C. Prime max temp was 63C.
