Will a motherboard start without CPU...

Will a motherboard START (as in fans spin and lights come on) without a CPU. And by START I dont mean POST or actually boot into OS.

And Im trying to figure out if I have a bum C2D on my hands or a DOA motherboard.

But Id think it would power on and then power off (like you stated) or atleast there would be some sign of life on the board if it was in working condition.

To clairfy, I was using this exact same set up for months.

About a week ago I went to add in another fan for rear exhuast in the case.

After doing so the board would not power on.

(Power was unplugged durring installation of the fan and I touched nothing in the case or on the Motherboard itself so its a bit puzzling to me as to how it died.)

Ordered a new board from Newegg.

Just praying that the CPU itself wasnt damaged when the system died BUT that is usually not the case.

It should start enough to issue a beep code which means processor failure or improper seating.

Sry for slow replies, a bit busy atm. No I didnt test the old PSU but I tried a friends to test it and I got the same results.

No signs of life what so ever.

So along with the new motherboard I ordered I also picked up a new 500w PSU just in case.
