I have an Audigy 4 from quite a few years back, and am waiting on an MSI P67A-C43 (B3) mobo which has Realtek ALC8992 onboard audio and was wondering if I will really notice a difference in gaming if I just use the onboard audio vs installing the Audigy 4 card. Basically I just play games, and the Audigy 4 has held its own for now, but I recently read a review that said the onboard on the MSI board is just amazing, but they never said what they were comparing it to. If they are neck and neck, are there any advantages/disadvantages of using onboard audio vs installing a card in general?

An Audigy 4 is basically a rebadged Audigy 2 which is not a bad thing.
From my personal experience i found my Audigy 2 sounded better then my ALC889.
Manufacturers can claim onboard is 109 SNR db all they want it's simply not true.
Here's a MSI P67A-GD65 with ALC892 reviewed.

Nowhere near 109 SNR db with some THD thrown in.
Your Audigy 4 will actually provide over 100 SNR and have less distortion.
Depending on your intended uses the onboard may be useful for certain applications.

i agree. i have an audigy4 and it poops all over onboard sound. try it for yourself. there is enough of a difference that it is noticeable, you actually hear more sounds. a realtec chip sounds empty and void in comparison imo. but i do have an older mobo.
