Any benefits to an ATI / AMD setup?

Looking to build a strictly gaming PC (with a little photo editing capability) for a family member and the way I see it, ATI and AMD are both budget-centric with good performance.

I know that AMD owns ATI, so with that in mind, are there any benefits to using their CPU and GPU together?

Solution
Yes, but only if you want the option to add a second GPU. AMD motherboards don't natively support SLI (nVidia's dual card technology), so if you choose an AMD CPU and a nVidia card, you're eliminating an upgrade path. Other than that, there is no advantage to staying in the family.
