Buying on February 10 so then revise this build after Sandy Bridge releases

I would go with one of the quad core i5 cpu's and see if you can fit in a stronger gpu.
Or maybe still buy a current i5 depending on how much the prices drop

Your at that "hard to choose" point where your betwixt an 1156 and 1366 based system. I generally pair the 1156 chipset w/ the 460 GFX cards and the 470 with 1366 builds. IF sticking with the 460, I'd suggest waiting for the 1155 successor to the 1156 Asus Saberetooth. If ya want to stick with the 1366 based build, although you will spend a few more bucks ($65) I'd get your friend's suggested combo and put the following in it for a better balanced system:

$209 ASUS ENGTX470/2DI/1280MD5/V2 GeForce GTX 470

$40 Scythe SCMG-2100
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835185142

$20 Asus Burner
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135204

The 850 watt PSU in the combo will easily support the addition of a 2nd GFX card at a later date.

If ya wanna watch Blue Ray consider......

IMO for a gaming system you have to much money into your CPU / MOBO / RAM and not enough into the GPU for your rez.

for 1200 you could do a i5 760 with a GTX 570 that would give you better FPS in games
