I currently have a ASUS DirectCU 5850 in my system. It's amazing. Then I found out that the new 6870 came out, and has amazing Crossfire scaling. Should I sell my 5850 and get a 6870, then upgrade to 2 6870's down the line? Also, how does the 6870 compare to my 5850 in single-gpu setups?

Yeah definitely not worth getting the 6870 over a 5850. And if you can find a good deal, CF 5850s works great at 1080p. You can max any game out. Here's some benchmarks on CF vs a single 5850 I ran, with them OCed from 700/1000 to 875/1200

Anywhere from 60-90% improvement in performance over a single card, and that was with 10.5 drivers, which 10.10 purportedly has made gains in CF on many games (I should say cumulatively from 10.6 to 10.10)

the 5850 has plenty of room for OC. the 6870 is already near its capacity. so OC the 5850 to about 930~960 mhz. it should be around the 6870.
i think he wantz to X-fire the cards the 5850 doesnt scale good on X-fire against 6870

If I were you, I would wait until other cards come out, because either prices will drop or a better card will be available at a good price.

If not, I would try to get a 5870. That cards is a better performer than all the cards you mentioned.

Remember, the prices should be coming down soon.
