Can anyone please help me. My homeschooled disabled son has a IBM T21
thinkpad and has managed to pry the p key cover off and break the tiny white
plastic connectors that attach the key to the surface below.

Does anyone know where I can buy such a tiny part as it seems so pointless
buying a whole keyboard when I need such a tiny part. As a sinle Mum i need
to count the pennies.

Any ideas please?

thanks

Unfortunately, with most laptops, the individual keys are not "fixable". I
am not sure on the T21 though. You can pick up used keyboards on eBay
inexpensively, but unless you are somewhat skilled at taking apart and
repairing laptops, it would not be advisable for you to try to repair it
yourself. Perhaps you can simply plug in an external keyboard and let him
use the laptop that way. There are keyboards that are flexible and pretty
much impervious to children and the associated spills, droppages, etc. I
have 2 and got them at CompUSA.

Besides Richard suggestion, you might want to call IBM and inquire about
the price of a keyboard. Might be less than you think. But if anyway you
feel uncomfortable replacing the keyboard, you might ask a small
computer store for help, you never know, they might be sympathetic and
solve your problem inexpensively.

As a father, may I suggest, if at all possible, to teach your son not to
try to fix problems himself ... and to call for help first?

Regards and good luck

John,

Calling IBM would - not - be the way to go. KB's from them would be close to
$200US. eBay KB's run $20-$30US.
