PCI 1.1 mobo PCI 2.0 GPU card compatiblity

Hopefully a simple question, i have a old-ish system based on a ASUS P5K SE - motherboard - ATX - iP35 - LGA775 Socket motherboard which has a PCI Express x16 slot. I need to replace the graphic card as i believe it's gone faulty. (the screen gets scrambled after a few minutes, seems to run fine, only the graphics are affected, bios cpu and MB temp are fine)

I'm looking at the ATI Radeon 5770 HD 1GB PCI-Express 2.0 x16 and have read that PCI Express 1.1 x16 are compatible with PCI Express 2.0 cards, they will just run slower, 8GB/s rather than 18GB/s transfer rates.

My questions are:

Is this Mobo and GPU card indeed compatible?

Is this an appropriate GPU card for this mobo, or should i get a older/slower card?

  1. It is compatible the HD5770 is not powerful enough to max out the speed of your slot so you are fine.
