Hello,
I just bought an e7500 c2d to replace my p4 3.2ghz CPU. I thought that all lga 775 CPUs could work with lga 775 mobos. I just forget to check the compatibility. And now apparently it is not compatible. What happens if I install it anyway?

More about : incompatible cpu

There is a good possibility it will kill the cpu, or just not work .
I know 680i motherboards only have support for certain 775s.
other chipsets may need a bios update. You didnt specify which Motherboard you have so its hard to tell.

You can get an E6700 if you can find one thats the fastest available on that board may look at ebay or get lucky and find one new some where.

Yes your screwed. You can't just assume a cpu will work, you have to check the support list.

but you could probably just get a cheap G41 mobo for like $40-50.

I agree -- your better option at this point is to get a cheap LGA 775 mobo. They start around $35-40 depending on what features you want. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=E...

Depending on what kind of ram you have you may be able to find one that's compatible with what you already have and cut down on additional expense.

Hey guys! Thanks for the help! Got a refund. It's not worth spending 200 bucks on a core 2 duo when I can get the newer models with mobo for under 300 right? Haha. Shall save up for a $2k gaming machine.

2k is probably a little steep, but yes saving up for a new build sounds like a good idea. You will get the best value for the money with a $6-700 homebuilt PC.
