Hey, been struggling with an interesting one here. It's a Homebrew with Nvida 8800GT and 2 Chimei 22" CMV221D Monitors. Well to start off its a problem with only one of my monitors, about a week ago my computer dropped the resolution of my secondary monitor to 1024 x 768, which isnt even my native aspect ratio, but when i went to change it in either Nvidia control panel or windows desktop settings it would only let me choose from 1024 x 768 or 800 x 600, when it should be in 1680x1050. After unplugging the monitor and re-plugging it in, it would then allow me to set the proper resolution but instead of being labeled "Chimei Opteolectric Digital Display" like the monitor without problems it was labeled Generic Non-PNP Digital Display. But after I lock my computer or turn it off my computer wont even recognize that the monitor is even plugged in until I unlpug it and replug it in but again lock it and your back to square one. So I then uninstalled the driver assigned to that monitor in Device Manager so that when i plugged the monitor back in it might assign the right driver... but that did not work. Then I downloaded the most current Nvidia driver, uninstalled all Nvidia drivers then installed the new ones. After installing the new drivers the problem with the monitor not being recognized was then resolved, but now its back to forcing the resolution down to 1024x768. I built this computer 2 years ago, have been using the same monitors the whole time and same graphics card and Ive never had a problem like this. So if you have any helpful feedback please lay it on me.

Try using a driver that pertains specifically to that monitor. I mean the monitor's driver, not Nvidia's. If that doesn't work, I would say it is a hardware problem, likely the monitor is on it's way out, esp. if the other identical one works fine. Did you try switching the monitors?

Yeah I plugged the monitor into my laptop, the laptop would recognize that its plugged in but when you selected it to turn it on, nothing would happen. So conclusion is a fried monitor, Luckily I still have the main monitor... oh well I guess its time to go shopping for a new one.
