dv9000 usually shutdown due to overheating. Yous say "Screen just goes into lines" makes it sound like a video issue. Have you tried updating drivers?

DV 9000.... as in HP DV 9000 laptop? Running a AMD 64 x2, nVidia GPU/Chipset and Broadcom nic? I have one. But hose had massive recals due to the chipset or the GPU going out.

If its giving issues when you are downloading it could be the HDD or the SATA controller.

And what do you mean had the chipset replaced? From what i know, HP stopped the extended recall on those a while ago and wont do jack to help anyone with one of those.

I had to pay for the repair by having the chipset replaced. I'm just having issues with downloading anything to the computer.

Can't even get any updates through Windows or Microsoft, because it goes bullistic beforeit finishes dowloading.

Looks like that repair you had done didn't work. The SATA controller is on the chipset and if its doing that when trying to download files, which have to then write to the disk from the NIC, then the chipset is still probably bad.

Honestly, the price you probably paid was not worth it. You should get a new laptop, pull the old HDD and put it in a enclosure.
