The best card out right now is the 9800XT so ATI is my answer.

I upgraded from a GF3 ti500 to a 9600XT (128M) last december. That was definitely an improvement. What would be good for you also depends on the rest of your rig. Maybe try to find a 9700pro somewhere for a good price? or a 9800pro if the price gets right (with the X800 out).
As my card will have to last till autumn/winter this year, I did not need 256M in it and the cards they sold with 256M had slower memory.

I just upgraded (couple weeks ago) from a 1700+ to 2400+.
I have 512MB PC2100 and a GF3 TI200 128MB.
My bottleneck is definitly the vid card, so it's the obvious choice for the next upgrade.

I have the Model 8 (Thoroughbred) 2400+
Why do you say 9600? 9800 wouldn't work well? Not much performance increase? Price is obviously better on 9600.
