Ive decided to build a complete new system and the first part i want to chose is the cpu.

My budget for this part is £150 ($240) and the computer will be used mostly for gaming but there will also be abit of web browsing and ill be using large applications like photoshop, visual studios etc...

I havn't chose any other parts yet as i like to build a system around the cpu.

Any help or advice would be very helpfull :)

2500k is going to be your best bet. 240 will cover that in USD money i dont know where you can buy from over there.

in the uk it comes to around £168 ($270 USD) which i could stretch too if its my best option. But for abit less i could get either the AMD II X6 1090t. And for £140 ($225 USD) i could get the AMD II X4 970? is the 2500k worth the extra buck?

oh my god, lol the 2500k will blow away any amd currently on the market. It is also faster then the i5-960 and i7-970. At this moment sandy bridge is the best there is other then the 2 extrem i7's that cost 1,000$ lol.

The 2500k is in a different league than any AMD processor right now. The Phenoms should perform adequately in most games but the Sandy Bridge processors are easily the best option available at the moment....

I think he needs to let us know more of what he wants to do with it, what resolution his monitor is. He is looking to build a new computer its not built yet, so mabye we can advise him better we need to know what he really wants to do with it.

oh well i think i could stretch for the 2500k then in that case :)  erm as for the rest of the specs i havent completely decided yet, my monitor im not sure on the make but its i think 22" and 1900 x 1200 resolution. Its mainly going to be used for heavy gaming :)

Then you want to go with the 2500k

a p67 mobo

4-8gb of 1600 oc ram

gpu-560-570-580-590-6870-6850-6970-6950 and so on.

here is the most simple oc guide to the 2500k-4.5ghz 100% stable
Overclock a Core i5-2500K to 4.5GHz
1. Enter the BIOS by pressing Delete as the PC starts
2. Enter the Advanced menu by clicking the button in the top-right corner
3. Set the CPU multiplier to 45x
4. Enable Load-Line Calibration
5. Set the CPU voltage to 1.3-1.35V
6. Set the CPU PLL to 1.9V
7. Set the VCCSA to 1.1V
8. Set the VCCIO to 1.106V

2 gtx 560ti's in sli will out preform 1 gtx 580. I prefer one fast card to 2 slower ones so if you ever have the money you can add another one. Also when we are done here make sure to select a best answer so the thread will close and people will stop posting.
