Hello,

I've bought an Intel I7 2600K CPU, Win 7 (64 bit), Asus Xonar Essence STX, and motherboard ASUS P8p67 Deluxe. ++
I want to connect the PC to the Yamaha RX-V767 receiver.

Should I use SPDIF from ASUS Xonar STX or from the motherboard?

Or through HDMI on my future GTX 580? I want to use display port for my DELL U2711.
Thanks!

optical from Xonar. HDMI will only get you stereo.

Edit - I should clarify that, Connecting HDMI to the tv would get you Dolby to the TV and stereo out from there as it is a violation of the digital rights for the tv to pass the dolby signal thru to another device; as I understand it.

^^ It should; I know the 500 series is perfectly capble of transmiting Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Theatre, and assume it should be able to handle uncompressed 7.1 without issue.

Anyway, if you have a STX, why in the heck isn't all audio going through it? Don't bother with the GPU passthrough when you already have that thing...
