I bought a HD5850 and plugged it in yesterday, however it doesn't seem to be detected. Monitor doesn't turn on but the computer starts normally, I even hear the windows sound when it starts.

ATI's driver cd can't check ID and even if I manually install the drivers, they don't work.

I tried resetting the BIOS but didn't work either.
The GPU needs 1 6 pin pci cable and 1 8 pin pci cable but since I don't have an 8 pin cable, I connected 2 6pin cables.

I previously received another hd5850 that arrived damaged so I sent it back (plastic fan cover was loose), but before sending it I tried it and it worked so I'm guessing this is a faulty unit?

I'm using a M3n78 Pro with bios update 1301 and have a 500W PSU.

Please advise!

When you say PCI connector do you mean 6 pin connector from the PSU? Mine requires to six pin connectors.

I would test another GPU in the slot to make sure you haven't damaged your board, and also test the card in a friends rig if possible, otherwise I would RMA this one, too.
