Extreme PSU Calculator Underestimates?

Forum CPU & Components : Power Supplies, Cases & Mods Extreme PSU Calculator Underestimates?

Getting an estimate for a Sandy Bridge system. Just for a baseline, I entered:
Core i5 2500k
90% CPU Utilization
High end desktop mobo (not sure if that's right for a P8P67 Pro)
nvidia GTX 560 TI for MSI GTX 560 TI Twin Frozr OC
2 sticks DDR3 SDRAM
90% system load
20% capacitor aging

Recommended watts from extreme: 389

From what I could find online, just the chip and video card can consume over 600 watts at load.

1)What am I missing here?
2)What wattage would you recommend? Other components will be pretty standard (high rpm or ssd for boot drive, 7200rpm storage drive, dvd burner)

no clue who posted 600w but they have no idea what they are talking about. a 500w+ PSU with 34a+ on the 12v is more then enough for that system.

the following system didn't break 360w at stress.
Test System Specs
- Intel Core i7 920 (Overclocked @ 3.70GHz)
- x3 2GB G.Skill DDR3 PC3-12800 (CAS 9-9-9-24)
- Asus P6T Deluxe (Intel X58)
- Seagate 500GB 7200-RPM (Serial ATA300)

Thanks for the info. I must have been reading the benchmarks wrong. When I saw 300+ watts at load for the video card, I thought they were reporting consumption for the card itself. Not for the entire system.

GPU makers overstate their cards' power requirements in the hopeless attempt to compensate for all the overrated chokemax PSUs out there that are only good for a fraction of what's on their labels.
