Hello,

I was wondering which CPU will work best for my single GTX 560 and possibly a GTX 580 on my birthday. Right now I have a X2 560 it does unlock to a quad but I was getting artifacts with it. My games kept freezing up so I went back to stock and it's running perfect again. When I had it unlocked I was getting a 86 avg everything maxed at 1080p on Resident Evil 5, with it running at dual core I get 45 avg. BIG DIFFERENCE.

So am I better off buying a X4/X6 Phenom or getting Sandy Bridge?

Hmm, let's say $400. Maybe $500 depending on the bills next month.

Ok what parts do you have already? Ram, disks etc etc

Already have 4GB OCZ 1600mhz, PSU is OCZ Fatality 550W may upgrade to a Corsair while I'm on this path, and I have enough HD Space.

I picked up the Intel Core I5 2500K, and the AMD Phenom ii x6 1100T because they are both around the same price range! From the benchmarks I5 is better at playing games because it has a built in graphics core, but the Phenom was faster, and could do applications better. So go with the I5, unless you want to wait for the AMD bulldozer the I5's technology, and architecture is way to new, and AMD needs to hurry up! This is coming from an AMD fan so your not getting some stuck up intel freak who just goes around suggesting Intel so everybody will be as crazy as them!

Here are the benchmarks...

So you just need the mobo and cpu. That two will cost you 440usd plus minus but we can look for a cheaper board if its out of your budget

That's alright. It's great, hopefully Frys has some good deals this next weekend.

Wow, thats crazy! Sandy Bridge basically killed the X6 in gaming. This is my gaming only PC so that CPU will be perfect! And yeah I'm not a fan boy either, just looking for the best performance for gaming at 1080p

X6 faster than the 2500k? Think your chart is upside down mate

It depends on the application multithreaded applications no, but anything that takes less than 3 threads will be faster than the I5 but yeah the I5 runs multi-threaded apps better! But if he overclocks the I5 it will be faster.

What resolution do you play at?

1804 x 1024. My tv isnt a 1920x1080 for some reason but it is scaled to 1080p though

Nah resolution matters not screen size just want to make sure. CRTs can change resolution without quality loss and can spit out a huge amount of frames unlike LCDs. One last question. That's gpus. Are they the 560ti or just 560?

Well the one I have is labeled as a Ti.

Asus GTX 560 Ti
