Mine laying problems

Hello,

I'm hosting a standard game running turn 165. Everything went fine, but
since about 3 turns the Crystal player is not able to lay minefields
anymore, although his ships have the correct mission, enough torps and
enough fuel.
Host version is 3xxxx.47, no addons, no special settings.

The only thing that is remarkable is, that there are LOTS of minefields in
the game.

Has anyone got an idea what the problem could be or what I should check?

Any help would be welcomed.

Make sure that the minefield limit hasn't been reached. If it has, no one
will be able to lay minefields until some are gone.

There is a minefield limit too: 500

There is a maximum limit of 500 minefields. That could have been reached.

Thanks to all for the quick response.

Indeed there are 500 minefields...hm, I did not know this is a limit,
although I had a look in the doc.

In which order are new minefields laid if an old one disappears? Ship ID?

After posting my message to the newsgroup I received a mail that " a
minefield disappeared without an enemy sweeping it".
Does this also belong to the 500 limit somehow?

As there is a point called "minedecay", minefields start to vanish the
next turn after laying.
If they are not fed time by time they will be gone somewhen.

Yep, same both before and after limit.

If they are absolutely sure nobody is sweeping, it is probably decay. Fields
only decay (by default) 5% each turn.

Matthias, I forgot to mention in our email, but, me and my allies were actually
trying to fill the minefield list specifically so the crystals couldn't lay any
more mines, as well as keep his ally, the privs, at bay. By our counts we still
had a bunch of minelaying left to do, but I'm sure we haven't seen them all...

If that's the only thing keeping the Crystals from minelaying, then it was
intentional.

I know about the decay, but if I believe the player the minefield was much
bigger than the decay rate would explain.

Cloaker sweeping then flying to planet? Ship around planet sweeping?
Minefields exploding? Using dosplan or VPA and a few turns without his ships
scanning the field so he sees several turns of decay at once? Is he sure he
didn't accidently scoop the wrong field or something?

Minefield being swpt to the point where a decay would complete the
destruction of said minefield?

I don't know if this can happen, but if minefields can decay away to
nothing, then logically it *should* be possible...
