Hello, I just purchased a Dell XPS 8300 desktop. It did not come with USB 3.0 so I would like to install a USB 3.0 expansion card. All of the cards seem to require an internal power connection. I am not that computer literate to know where and how to plug the expansion board in, after I install it in the PCI slot. Is this a relatively straight forward, easy thingto do, or am I biting off more than I can chew? Thanks for the help in advance!

Looks like a dual post. Here is my reply to your other thread.

This is what I installed in my computer: http://www.evga.com/products/moreI [...] rals&sw=22

In use for over 5 months. Works perfectly. Easy to install in a PCIe slot, and no external power is required.

Follow basic safety procedures like unplugging the computer from the wall outlet, and wearing an anti-static wrist strap before you open the computer side panel.

Here is the service manual: http://support.dell.com/support/ed [...] /index.htm

It is not a difficult task if you read and study the manual.

Thanks! Worked great! I did need external power but the card came with a power supply cable and it was easy to install!

I'm not 100 % sure but I think the empty "flexbay" spot in the front of that machine immediately to the left of the 2 front usb 2.0 ports in the hidden compartment under the second optical drive is a place you can install some usb 3.0 ports with a Dell part. I remember reading about this at the Dell community forums. I think they mentioned a part number there. If anyone knows about that let me know because I was interested in adding 3.0 ports myself without sacrificing pci slots in the back. :)

Thanks for the tip. When it comes time for me to put some 3.0 ports in myself, I will post at that time. Did not mean to hijack the thread, was only making some info available and wondering out loud myself. :)
