I've got an 8800GTS from '07 in my computer now and I'm looking to build a new PC for video editing. I do all of my editing at work on a MacPro so I really don't having anything to compare to.

My question is instead of buying the latest and greatest card, I'd like to know how 8800GTS in SLI would stack up to some of the newer cards out there. I'm looking specifically for performance in rendering in Premiere and After Effects. Gaming isn't really important as this will be a computer used for working, not playing :)

The SLi part won't do anything for rendering, it's solely for gaming.

Not really and they use a lot power for the performance they have so get one newer card like a 5770/GTX460 768mb. I won't recommend a GTS450 or lower as they are crap and older cards like the 8800gtx on up are better overall.

Really? No increase doing that? All right well I guess I'll look up some system configurations that are more suited for rendering HD video.
