Well I've had this thing for about 6 years now, still running strong; but I know this laptop uses the lga775 socket for the processor, yet from what the company tells me is that I can only use 3 types of processor for the socket: Intel Core 2 Duo E6400, E6700, and the Extreme X6800. Now I know these aren't the only processors that will fit in there, but as far as I can tell it has something to do with the voltage and it being a P965 Chipset. Now my current voltage for my E6700 is 1.163 V. At least thats what its saying for CPU-Z. The Intel Core 2 Duo Wolfdale E8600 shows 0.85–1.3625 V. I am wondering if I would have to lower the voltage somehow if that is possible?

Laptop CPU sockets are rarely upgradable without large dissembly and even then are usually impossible due to bespoke sockets and small thermal limits.

The only way to upgrade your laptop is to buy a new one.

I would have figured as much before, but they said the same thing about putting a Nvidia FX 3700M in place of my 7950gtx's. That works just fine after a touch of Bios work. But for the most part I just need more information on the two points you mentioned to make sure. Much thanks. I now have a focus of direction to search into.
