I'm having trouble with my Sony Vaio GRX-560. 8 out of 10 times it
will not power on. When I hit the power button the power light comes
on, it sounds like it is trying to go through a POST then just sits
there. Ther other 20% of the time it boots normally. I have changed
the battery, taken out the CD-ROM drive, and even tried without the
battery. Anyone know a solution (I have tried the SONY reset button
trick with no avail). I REALLY hate to think it is the motherboard...

Try searching the notebook/hardware section of
http://pub173.ezboard.com/bunofficialsony for similar issues. It might
be something like a failing CMOS battery; but it might be something
specific to the GRX series (like RAM socket solder failure) and if so it
will be reported.

Sounds like RAM slot issues and the need of resoldering. We repair
these as well as other issues regarding Vaio laptops. Try pulling the
RAM form slot 2, Batt and power disconnected, Hit the reset button and
see if it fires. If not swap the mods and retry.

Good deal.. You just Diagnosed your own laptop.. The slots need
reworked and if you'd like we can do these. Vaio's are quite known
for this issue as well as other brands of laptops. 169.00 plus
return ship, 10 day max turn around time. I'd leave the RAM out of
slot 2 until you can get it repaired. It can and will eventually kill
the memory module itself and then a replacement would be
needed..(Meaning more cost on your end).. Ken
