For a long time I have been thinking of getting a sound card, I have (And still do) only used the onboard sound that is on my motherboard up until now.
They are about equal in price, and judging by the specifications it seems the Asus Xonar is the best sound card, but I want to hear an experienced persons opinion (Perhaps someone that has heard them in action)?

Any reply will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks beforehand :D

If you don't need DTS you can get the cheaper Xonar DX (on PCIe x1) or Xonar D1 (same card on PCI), depending on what free slots are on your motherboard and where are they located. Very good cards.

Yeah, the D2 is at a CRAPPY price point. I'd recommend the Auzentech Meridian 2G [also C-Media based] over the ASUS D2 in a heartbeat at this point. The ASUS D1/DX is also an attractive alternative if you don't need DTS encoding, and the HT Omega Striker is also another competitive option.
