Hi
I'm considering buying a D70, the primary reason being its speed.
What really bugs me about more prosaic cameras is shutter lag .. children
and beagles are impossible to catch.
Any suggestions for another camera I might consider which is equally
responsive?
What's important to me is lack of shutter lag, not so much lens
interchangeability.
Thanks for any advice.
And, oh, a 28mm equivalent wide-angle is preferable.
I'm waiting for the Oly C7070 to make its appearance here.

When you say fast, I am assuming you mean:
- AF
- burst shooting
- write speed
The fastest (by far) affordable DSLR is the Canon 20D. If you want your
28mm, consider:
EF 17-40L f/4
EF-S 17-85 f/4-5.6 IS
EF 16-35 f/2.8L

Any of the digital SLRs will do what you want, but the D70 is a good choice.
If you want to spend a little less, then the Canon will do, or if you want
to spend a little more, then the Canon is also a good value.
The non-SLRs are slowed down by their viewfinder and autofocus systems.
Most of the SLR systems have a 28 mm lens equivalent. On the Nikon that
equates to an 18 mm lens, which is the wide angle end of the kit lens.

Most of the newer digitals have gotten shutter lag down to
inconsequential levels. Ads for the new Kodak DX7590 have it at about
..1 second, which isn't bad for a P&S camera. Would expect other cameras
of the same vintage to be about as good.
I suffered a LOT from shutter lag on my old (3 years) camera, but my
newer one (1 year old) hasn't caused me any trouble on this score at all.
