Good day all,

My specs are as follows:

CPU: C2D E6750 (Stock at 2.66Ghz)
Mobo: Intel DG33BU
GPU: 512MB ATI 4850

Here it goes...

Due to my mobo's inability to overclock I wanted to buy another mobo. I went through some catalogues and realised that a I3 mobo goes the same price as a high performance LGA775.

Now I'm looking at buying a I3 540 (which is clocked higher) which I can overclock. If I sell my old board and CPU I won't pay alot of difference.

Is the performance boost (especially in gaming) going to be worth it?

Probably not. The Core i3 is faster, not by enough to justify it.

The new Core i3s would probably be at the performance of the Core i3 540 overclocked and then some. (Keep in mind the new Core i3s don't OC, that is the 2xxx series)

Thanks amdfangirl. I checked some comparisons and for a measly extra 5 fps...no thanks.

BTW...you should have your toast fetish looked at :p

If I was in your position I'd swap the CPU out to a Core 2 Quad, you'd get a much better performance benefit from that than overclocking a Core 2 Duo.

@Ten98

Only a handful of games actually support more than two cores and I don't see the need to upgrade for 10+ FPS in GTA IV.

SSD's cheese expensive in the nice republic of South-Africa. I'm just going to save and go i5.

Thanks for all the replies.
