Hi All!
According to Donovan's and other docs,
the Crystals may have temp*1000 clans on a planet. Is it true that they
may NOT have ANY clans on a zero-temp-planet??? As 0*1000=0?

Yes. Temp 0 planets are quite rare, though, and one turn with an Onyx solves
the problem.
You can also take comfort in the fact that you can put a lot more clans on
temps 1-100 than most other races.

That doesn't comfort me. :-(
The planet is far, far away, and no Onyx nearby.
For tactical reasons (involving Privateers present) I need to have
control of the planet at the END of the current turn. If I kill that
(currently Privateer-owned) planet, and afterwards my clan dies, then I
will lose that very valuable ship (which unfortunately has lots of
figherbays and no torptubes)...

Well, you can't get control over the planet by capturing it, your clan will
die.
Looks like you're stuck, in that regard at least. Good luck.

If it can be of any help (which I doubt), but at the time of combat you will
still own the planet if you dropped clans. They die after combat I think.

I'm replying to a message way too old to be any useful now, but, in that case,
if you drop enough clans on the planet greater than the climate death rate, you
should still have clans on the planet, at least for a turn or two.

Wrong. They all die. No climate death rate for x-tals. Probably not
even a "overpopulation eat supplies".
