I have a wireless router set up which gives the laptop internet access, I am trying to also allow my childs computer get wireless access. Is this possible. Our "modem" from the cable company is located downstairs, the router is on the 2nd floor and the computer I am trying to set up is on the 3rd floor?

Yes, should work. Copy the setup from the computer that works.
