First Custom Build - The 'Blue Machine' at $1000 with Sandy Bridge

Approximate Purchase Date: Several months (still saving the money)

Budget Range: $800-$1200

System Usage from Most to Least Important: gaming, surfing the internet, watching movies

Parts Not Required: keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: no preference

Country of Origin: US

Parts Preferences: AMD/ATI video card (for 3 monitor eyefinity set-up), perfer intel i5/i7 processor

Overclocking: Maybe (most likely not)

SLI or Crossfire: Maybe (might get a second card in the future)

Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080, 1920x1200)

Additional Comments: Set up includes the cost of OS. I want the system to run an Eyefinity 3-monitor set-up. I play Call of Duty, Civilization V, and WOW. I have been doing alot of reading and trying to balance a good system without having to balance my checkbook. What are your thoughts? Are the components compatiable? Any suggestions for different components? I was trying to go with a blue color scheme too.

  2. Drop down to a HAF 922 and a XFX 750 and use the added savings to get a 6950 for 300 and a 1TB drive (either samsung or WD) for 10 more dollars.
  3. If you're building in several months, then come back and ask them.

Prices can change drastically by then, especially if it's after bulldozer comes out.

Also, $1000 for 3 1080p monitor eyefinity gaming isn't doable. You'd need about $700 in GPU's alone to game at that resolution at a decent framerate.
