Motherboard/Bios won't recoginize dimm0 slot.

I have a gigabyte m68m-s2p motherboard with a AMD64 x4 640 CPU. I'm having trouble getting the bios/motherboard to recognize one of my ram sticks (dimm0) The ram is Patriot Viper 2GB 5-5-5-15. The system sees both dimm slots, however when I insert a stick into the 1st slot closest to the cpu (dimm0) and turn it on I get the 3 long beep code (which is for the video card-go figure) and then I have to clear the cmos and remove the ram in order to boot up again. Any ideas on what to do, or is the ram slot bad? BTW I did swap out the ram in the second slot, both sticks are good. Thanks for any help.

if theres no problem with the ram stick (i guess you have tested it) then the motherboard slot is bad. the only solution is rma it if its still under warranty.
