I live in a basement and the router is located on the 2nd floor. ( floor above the main floor)

Right now my current wireless adapter has a signal strength of either poor or fail.

So i need something give me better signal strength but also something stable.

any recommendation?

What hardware are you currently using?

You could try a Directional Antennas. You current router might not send out a strong enough signal, two floors is a lot.

yes two floors with obstructions in the way might be too much for wireless...if you could check your router specs and see if its got a wireless distribution system(WDS) or repeating capabilities you could get a similar router or Repeater to amplify the wireless signal in an intermediate level(say 1st floor) so that the wireless signal is amplified when it reaches the basement....

yea 2 floors is a lot. But my laptop is able to achieve signal strength of good or excellent and stays between 36-48 mbps.

the one on my desktop stays at at around 5.5 mbps.

my laptop has intel centrino ultimate-N 6300 AGN. Is there any wireless adapters that are equivalent of that for desktops?
