Hey guys so my teacher has given me a challenge if i can put together a low low end gaming rig for around 300$ that can play WoW on high to ultra graphics with decent frames. Not sure what size monitor it would be played on but 1680 x 1050 at max. I was looking at a 4670 and Anthlon x3 for the build since they have good performance and cheap. Also it must be a "Lan Box" sort of case. No OS is needed just the normal parts HDD,Mobo,CPU,Case(Probs with PSU for budget),Memory,GPU,Optical. Is this possible?

No discrete graphics in that budget but one can play WOW on the integrated video on the mobo.

I have a pre-built Dell Inspiron 570 MT with the 4200 integrated and can play Oblivion on medium settings. It's decent and works with the chipset but you get better frames with more ram (4 gigs will probably do, mine has 6 and there is no chop at all.)

$300 is almost impossible if you want to play at ULTRA! What I have below should play ultra at a playable 25ish FPS at 1680x1050 though.

I did manage $361.94 with $25 in rebates ($336.94 A/R) with a lot of compromises

Not the most efficient PSU, but about as low as I dare go for Case+PSU

Western Digital Caviar Blue SATA 3 500 GB HDD: $39.99

Its on sale cheap right now, or I wouldn't be bothering with a sata3 drive. It'll work fine in the SATA 2, anyway.

XFX HD5670 GPU: $79.99 w/ $15 MIR

You could step down to a HD4650 and chop about $30 off the basic price, but I dunno how playable Ultra would be. $48.99 w/ $15 mir

drops price to $330 (305 after rebate)
