Graphics card for this PC...

Hey everyone, thanks for the help again. My friend has this PC: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01662837&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=uk&product=3878832#N332

The GPU within it has gone bad, dodgy fan, well known issue apparently, he's going to buy a new one anyway. The budget is £70 and I have come up with this http://www.ebuyer.com/product/179670

I just want to make sure that's a decent choice, especially considering the PSU is only 300w.

Thanks for the help!

  1. Thanks for the suggestion but thats not an option, I need a new GPU only. For a 300w.
  2. actually the power draw on his existing gpu is about the same http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce_9_Series#GeForce_9500_GS
    as a 4670.
  3. So would a 240 be ok? According to this it's better than a 4670 http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html although I know that doesnt account for many factors, bt really will the 240 work?
  4. Also thanks for helping me this far

Those cards are neck and neck. For the same wattage and a faster card try a radeon 5670

    See here http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/2010-gaming-graphics-charts-high-quality/compare,2495.html?prod[4611]=on&prod[4582]=on&prod[4537]=on

The link doesnt work right copy and paste it.
That chart shows a comparison between the 4670, the gt 240 and the 5670
  6. Here is a fixed link wont let me edit for some reason..

Tom's Hardware - Benchmark Dragon Age: Origins
  7. Actually the GT240 is quite better than the 4670.
Along with a boatload of features. New tech(40mm) CUDA, Physx and all dat crap.
    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/179471
This is cheaper and features GDDR5

Yea and the 5670 is quite a bit better then the gt240 at the same power draw plus its quieter.
He seems more worried about performance then price.
