hello my name is Dyllan,

I am a pc gamer that likes to overclock.
But i have had fps problems in games that i should be getting 60+fps for.

My system.

Intel pentium dc E6500 @3.5ghz
gigabyte g31 mobo
kingston 2x2gb ddr2 800
msi gtx460 1gb oc cyclone ed
and i play at 1920x1080

so can any one please tell me why i always get stutter when i first start a game? E.g. Blackops is basically unplayable the first ten minutes, but after that it gets good fps, note this happens even at lower resolution(1024x728)?

And crysis warhead, i once put everything on minimum, even the resolution and the same problem in black ops occurs, is this maybe vista's(i have 32bit) fault? I heard that it caches programs or something like that. Is this true? So is it that ram is short of supply?
It cant be my gpu because that is overclocked to outpace a gtx470

i thank anyone that answers this in advance, any help in solving this problem would be much appreciated thank you.

I apologise if i have made any mistakes but im new to posting online:)

Welcome!
If you can upgrade your Vista to 64bit you can take full advantage of your installed memory. I am guessing that could be your bottleneck, since your dual core is running fast and should be able to keep up with the GPU.

32bit uses 3.5gb of ram when 4+ is installed this isnt going to be the bottleneck its the cpu, its a petinum i dont care what it is clocked at its going to bottleneck a gtx 460 unless hes at res of 1920x1080 or higher. Lower res=cpu does more scaling-higher gpu does more.

It is not a Pentium 4 and not a Pentium D, it is a Pentium E6500 (core2duo based) which keeps up with for example AMD's Dual core offerings http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/94?vs=121
Without enabling the 3GB parameter only 2GB is available for applications using a 32 bit OS http://support.microsoft.com/kb/291988

I dont care what that microsoft site says 32 bit can use 3.25-3.50 gb of ram. Is it xp,vista,or 7?

If its 7 I know for a fact 3.50 can be used. Im at work I will dig up my proof later. A few site I know bit-tech and hardwarecunucks did this a while back to prove it works.

well, I can get windows 7 64bit, so i guess i'll try that out and let you guys know, i can only get it next week though, thanks again everyone :)

I know it can use 4 GB! 2GB reserved for Kernel (OS) 2GB reserved for applications. People that use cad software like AutoCad have been activating the 3GB profile so the application can use more than the 2GB that is set there as std http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=9583842&linkID=9240697

Edit: you can try the 3GB profile!

I play all my games on DDR2-1066 2GB (one of my sticks is dead and I can't find my packaging, doh!) and I run full blast with 2 4890s and an OCed Q9550 punishing any game I've come across. (Win7 32bit)

*shrug

What's your RAM's timings?
