I have a Pavilion zd8080. I run 95% of the time from the powercord. Should I
keep the battery in at all times? Or just keep it out until I anticipate
using the battery? I never deplete all of it's charge. So is it giving
itself a charge everytime I plug the machine in?

The consensus is that you should remove that battery and get an
inexpensive $30 (or less) UPS (typically, an APC 350VA model).
In very many cases, a combination of heat and overcharging (which
produces heat) will destroy the battery over a period of 9 to 24 months
if you leave it in while running for long periods of time on AC.
