Screen goes black after booting up

Hello,
i have a windows 7 os, pc has been running ok for 3 years +, i started the computer up and after a few mins the screen just went blank/black,any ideas on what it could be ? its an asus mb,quad 6600 cpu, 4gb of ddr3 ram, point of view 512mb 9600gt gpu, i tried to access windows in safe mode and screen went blank also after minutes. help would be appreiciated

If possible try updating your graphics drivers. Make sure all cables are properly connected. You might also try a system restore to a point before this started, if possible. Try software methods of fixing this, if all fails, then the card may be damaged... there are always many possibilities when it comes to computer problems.
