How accurate are today's sensors on mobos for CPU's

Hi. My ASUS P8P67 mobo cames with a ASUS utiity suite that includes a nice CPU monitoring utility, etc. It says my i5 is a about 30 C idle most of the time. I also use RealTemp as of today. How accurate are these utils? Is 30 a good idle temp with the stock heatsink fan?

If the temperature measurement is based on diode currents on critical parts of the DIE it is extremely accurate. This is common semiconductor practice.
