Hey everybody, new to the site and looking to get some advice. I’ve been thinking of building a gaming PC for a long time now, and finally have enough money in order to do it.
I plan on using this computer solely for gaming, around $1500-1800 price range, and most likely going to get it from digitalstormonline.com ….I’ve never built a computer before so I figure I can experiment with replacing parts and upgrading this one before going full-bore and building my next from scratch.
Anyway, I was hoping to get some advice on my build. My goal is to be able to run DAII, SWTOR, Witcher II, D3, etc. on high/max settings.
Case: HAF 932
Processor: Intel Core i5 2500K 3.30 GHz
Motherboard: ASUS P8P67 Pro
Memory: 4 GB DDR3 1600MHz Corsair Dominator DHX
Power Supply: 750 W Corsair TX
HD: 1.5TB Seagate Barracuda (7200 RPM)(32MB Cache)
GPU: ATI Radeon HD 6950 2GB
Monitor: HP 23” Widescreen Flat-Panel TFT-LCD Monitor
One specific question: Should I upgrade the memory to 8GB? Before the new processors came out, everything I read said you shouldn’t need more than 6GB for gaming, so definitely curious about that.
Thanks for the help, really appreciate any feedback!
Unless your wealthy...and maybe you are, please don't get a pre-built. Putting together one of these builds isn't rocket science by a long shot. It may seem intimidating at first, but once you get started it's easy as pie. Especially with the 1,000,000 and 1 youtube vids out there on it.
