Hi guys, trying to make a decent yet cheap pc for surfing and movie watching. I put two builds up one intel and another amd. Trying to keep the rough approx price below $600. Could you guys take a look and tell me if i did good or if it will even run. Thanks guys!

Intel Build:
Gigabyte GA-H55m-D2H
Intel Core I3 550
Corsair CMX4GX3M2A1600C8
Enermax ECO80+ II EES350AWT II
NZXT Vulcan
Western Digital WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200rpm
DVD Drive (whichever)

AMD Build:
Asrock 890GM Pro3
AMD Athlon II X3 450
Corsair CMX4GX3M2A1600C8
Enermax ECO80+ II EES350AWT II
NZXT Vulcan
Western Digital WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200rpm
DVD Drive (whichever)

As of now, they are roughly at the same price. The AMD build is slightly cheaper but not by much. What do you guys think? Will it be fast? Can it handle 1080p playback without a hitch?

the intel system looks o.k. but will not be the best set up for 1080p. the amd system doesn't need a 95 watt triple core. stick to a fast 65 watt dual core. either system would benifit from a small low power discrete graphics card. something with hdmi out and a passive cooler. could then pick a cheaper mother board.your htpc should be quiet and efficient. something like this would work. only 39 bucks.take some of the load off your cpu when playing video.

So it really is better if I add a discrete video card. If I do that then I can shave a little more of. What do you think about a 5450 with the AMD one? I would switch out the mobo for a cheaper one. Would it be good?

IMO the onboard video is fine for AMD, a discrete card takes load off the CPU only for the Intel, the AMD one has integrated graphics on the mobo.

Can be done cheaper if that's too much.
