Seeking a Gaming Build for $800

Hey guys, I asked for some build advice last year and received phenomenal feedback. I was going to buy the parts, but I realized that I needed the money elsewhere.

Now I have enough funds to build a new computer, especially since I just bought an HDTV.

I bought a 26" LCD HDTV here. I like this TV, but the native resolution is 1366 x 768, which is common for an HDTV at this screen size. I would very much like to use my new computer with this HDTV, but I can always switch to a regular flat-screen monitor if I don't like the display.

Approximate Purchase Date: within one week

Budget Range: below $1000, but the sweet spot is $800 - after rebate

System Usage from Most to Least Important
: most important usage for me is good gaming capabilities (Rift, SC2, GW2, D3, etc) including performance and visuals; I would also like to play high definition movies on this computer using the HDTV

Parts Not Required: I don't need a mouse, keyboard, speakers or monitor. OS is not needed as well (can be gotten from my university for free).

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Newegg preferably

Country of Origin: United States

Parts Preferences: I would prefer an ATI 5850 graphics card as I've heard many good things about this one. This was a year ago, though. I'm not sure what the top-tier cards are now. Side question: Which cable will I need to connect my PC to my HDTV? DVI to HDMI? HDMI to HDMI?

Overclocking: Yes, I would prefer the ability to OC but this is not extremely important for "future proofing"

SLI or Crossfire: Yes, would prefer the ability to Xfire or SLI for "future proofing"

Monitor Resolution: HDTV's native resolution is 1366 x 768, so I could like parts that would work nice with this. However, this is not necessary if it's too difficult. I can always just use a regular monitor.

Additional Comments
: I prefer quiet PCs. The parts don't have to work with my new HDTV, but it would be a definite plus since I like the idea of having an HDTV as a monitor and a television. The most important necessity, if you will, is for the parts to be compatible with each other.

Thanks to anyone who offers advice and tips!

Lol this build looks familiar but quite sturdy. Can you please recommend a better graphics card though? I prefer a 5850 grade card or above that can be connected to an HDTV. I also updated that I don't need an OS.
  3. For the Video card me personally I would go with the 6950 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150518&cm_re=6950-_-14-150-518-_-Product it's absolutely phenomenal.

I don't think I want a card this powerful for my budget. It would be overkill and it would mess up the combo deals "Why_me" already posted. Even though his builds are good, I would appreciate some additional words from him. I will finalize my build unless someone has any other suggestions.
  5. I would suggest a 6870 over a 5850. Similar performance, newer and more efficient card.

Down below are two changes to consider. They aren't ATI cards for the fact I'm using combo deals to keep the price down, yet it's a step up in fps and it doesn't add all that much to the cost of the build. Remember though...this build is set up in case you decide to run two vid cards later on. It's always possible to do a single card set up (mobo w/1 pci-e 16 slot), a lower watt (and price) psu, and one high end vid card like a gtx 570.

Thanks, I think I will opt for the better graphics card and PSU. Thanks for all your help. Also, I've read that the case lacks good cooling. Do I need to buy additional fans to cool it?
  8. Okay, first of all, the GTX 460 is extreme overkill for 1366x768. You shouldn't be thinking about the HD 5850. If you will only have it hooked up to that TV, a 5670 would be more than enough.

My only other recommendation is that you get 8GB (2x4GB) of RAM.
  9. Or a pair of these with that 650w combo I first posted would rock and then some.

I want to test it with 1366x768 and see if I like it. If not, I'll just revert to using a regular monitor with a large resolution.
