I have a elderly 73 yo friend who's struggling with performance and wants to put a new MOBO, CPU and RAM in his rig so that he can game and play his video games like Flying and Black Ops.

His existing computer HP Pavilion a1730n(RK574AA) Athlon 64 X2 4600+ 2GB is this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883107294
currently a 500 watt PSU
His video card is a GT 430: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130594&cm_re=430_nvidia-_-14-130-594-_-Product

OS is : WIN 7, home premium
Belarc advisor reported this main circuit board: ASUSTEK Computer INC, NODUSM3, 1.05 Bus Clock 200 Mhz,

He's looking for a 6 core AMD, a new MOBO and RAM and will get parts from Newegg.

What MOBO, CPU and RAM do any of you recommend?
Also is his 500 Watt PSU large enough or does he need more power, if so what PSU do you recommend?

Will he need an after market Fan?

Thank you very much!

I think getting a 955 and a asrock 870 is a good idea. That'll come to a total of 250$ then add 50$ ram (4gb) from G.Skill Ripjaw X's and it'll fit the budget nicely. If you choose the Thuban you're going to have to cheap out on ram and mobo. So I think the 955 is a good option.

I call it a best value rebuild meaning the most performance for the least amount of money. Trying to keep the CPU under $300 and rebuild it around the CPU meaning the MOBO and RAM matched accordingly. For instance a AMD Phenom II X6 109T Black edition Thuban 3.2 Ghz is $229. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103849

If you think he should stick with a quad core this would be an option as well.
