Dim LCD

Dell Inspiron 8000, a few years old. Can I assume that if the screen starts
out normal and then goes dim after a minute that it's going bye, bye. Does
the same in Safe Mode. Reinstalled the video driver. Ran multiple
monitors, and the CRT monitor worked fine. The laptop screen would come on
for a few seconds now and then when I would switch screens, or make big
changes and then go dim. I can only read it when it's dim with a flashlight
at an angle. Fun.

Yes, I did check that. The settings for battery were for a very dim screen
and I adjusted it to high. Then I restarted and they were saved in the BIOS
on high. Same performance on battery or AC. Could a bad battery have
anything to do with it? I haven't checked to see how long it will run on
battery power.

I can only assume that fixing this will be a waste of money when a new
Inspiron can be had for 600 bones.
Hmmmm. Sell this on ebay for a couple hundred and.....

It STILL bugs me that the screen is lit fine on startup until the Windows
Professional loading screen comes up. Why?
