Benchmarks

I've done some "real world" benchmarks with a few different cards on a couple of different systems. I'm in the middle of mixingg and matching some parts, so while I did it, I did some testing. In case anyone is interested, here are the numbers. The systems used are below:

Done @ 1920x1080 @ 60Hz

Video Cards Tested:
Gigabyte GTX470 Super Overclocked Edition (OC'ed @ 850 Core Clock, 1700 Shader Clock, 1725 Memory Clock)
2x ATI 6870 Crossfire (Stock)
1x ATI 6870 (Stock)
Galaxy GTX580 (OC'ed to 830, 1660 Shader Clock, 2050 Memory Clock)

Rig 1:
AMD Phenom II X4 965 OC'ed to 3.8 Ghz
ASUS Formula IV Crosshair Motherboard
8GB Patriot Sektor5 DDR3 RAM @ 1600Mhz
Corsair 850 Watt Bronze Certified PSU
650 GB Western Digital Blue SATA 3GB/S HDD
1TB Western Digital Blue SATA 3GB/S HDD
AZZA Solano Full Tower ATX Case

Rig 2:
Intel i7 950 @ Stock Clocks
Gigabyte X58-USB3 Motherboard
8GB Patriot Sektor5 DDR3 RAM @ 1600Mhz
Corsair 850 Watt Bronze Certified PSU
650 GB Western Digital Blue SATA 3GB/S HDD
1TB Western Digital Blue SATA 3GB/S HDD
AZZA Solano Full Tower ATX Case

**The Nvidia cards overclocked like crazy, so I left them that way. The ATI cards would overclock, but also be unstable at times and cause issues during the benchmark. That's why they were left stock.

***Disclaimer: I'm not a professional reviewer, I'm not paid, I'm not biased. The games I used are not the industries most demanding games like Crysis or Metro. I limited the tests to games that had built in benchmarking applications/functions. Yes, I know that Crysis and Metro come with them when you get them through Steam, but uhh, well, I didn't get them through Steam.

****All games were set on their highest possible settings that the particular card allows.

Could you be more specific? Point in doing what?

For me it was to just compare the cards and then compare how they performed on Phenom II vs the i7. The reason I'm posting it, is in case anyone else is interested.

No big deal, if you aren't interested, keep it movin.

What? What does that have to do with anything? Nobody is trying to change the way people "believe" in online benchmarks.. This is an online benchmark too. It's just comparing two different systems with a few different cards.. Bug off dude, this thread obviously wasn't aimed at you.

I might have been interested in the results if you formatted in a way that I could compare each system without scrolling up and down the page.

If you explained the different setups, and quickly labeled them, then gave the result of each test with each system side by side, someone might read it. They current formatting is too difficult to compare.

Understandable, but unfortunately, I don't have 2 hours to format it into an Excel worksheet. Anyone interested enough to care about this, will most likely be interested enough to take five minutes and either scroll up and down, or copy and paste the cards they are interested in to some other format that is easier for them to reference.

Like I said, this was originally done for my benefit and to satisfy my own curiosity. The only reason I took the time to post it here is in case anyone else wanted to check it out. Something like this would have helped me if I was interested in choosing one particular card out of these options. Or someone trying to decide which platform to use with which card.

I think in my search for online benchmarks, I didn't come across one review that used the same cards, with the same settings, with the same games with the only variable being the CPU/MOBO platform.

dimurof82,
That's great! I'm glad you took time to do this!
I just have one question...
If you have Metro 2033 could you do a benchmark?
And any other non-TWIMTBP game?

Yea I can do something with Metro. However, the AMD rig is torn down, the 470 is sold, and the 6870's might be selling today. If you still want one with the Intel rig and the 580 let me know..
