Processor i7 vs quad core

Hello,

I want to build a really fast server for a Java eCommerce site but ofcource I want the least expensive hardware that can do so. I will have around 40 simultaneaous users and need between 8 - 12 MB of RAM to run smoothly. So is the Core 2 Quad or the i7 going to give me better response time. I will run Fedora on it.

I would recommend at least a quad Xeon or opteron server processor.
