Modem drops connection on only my PC

Hi,

I'm hardwired through my router. But, today I tried to remove the router and hardwire directly into the modem, and the connection keeps dropping. It says "Network cable unplugged". This doesn't happen when I'm connected through my router. I even reformatted out of frustration - but the same problem exists. Its as if my modem just doesn't work without my router. Suggestions?

Replacing Ethernet Cables won't work, because I'm using the same ones to connect through my router. I'm at a total loss...

Did you try resetting the Modem? (usually a small hole in the back with a button at the bottom you can press with something like a toothpick)

Hi jitpublisher,

Thanks for replying. I figured unplugging the modem and waiting 30s would be the equivalent to resetting it by pressing that reboot button on the back, but I did both anyway. It still does not work without the router.
