PC tower has power and fan runs but wont boot up

Our PC worked fine last night but when we tried to boot it up this morning we could hear the fan in the tower, but it wouldn't boot up. We have critical items in it that aren't backed up and need to retrieve those item.

When you say 'fan in the tower', do you mean the fan in the PSU? It sounds like the PSU is fine but power isn't reaching the motherboard, or the motherboard is knackered. Are you getting any beeps from the tower?

Retrieving your information isn't an issue, assuming the HD hasn't been damaged. If you remove the HD and install it in another machine, you'll be able to access it. Alternatively, purchase a 3.5" drive caddy which effectively turns your internal drive into an external USB drive. Of course, you need a working PC to access the information, but it should still be there.
