Hi everyone,
IM thinking of doing some upgrades on my rig and was wondering if its worth it to make the switch.
I am currently running a core i3 550 w/ stock cooling and speeds....
I was planning on switching to a phenom II X4 950 BE with motherboard combo for ~$200 before taxes

also would it be worth it to get that or to just get another lga 1156 motherboard for my current core i3 since im currently running a mATX and want to upgrade to a full ATX with crossfire capabilities since i plan on doing that sometime down the road...

so overall.. am i going to see a bg performance increase with the quad core and MOBO combo or should i just stick with my current CPU and buy a new motherboard to install it on

well i was on a $200 budget for this upgrade and i never really even thought about selling my current motherboard and CPU lol... i know the 2500k was better but the amd CPU was cheaper but if i can get $150 for my current CPU/ Motherboard then i will get the 2500k combo instead

I've put that M4A79XTD to task and it's a good MB (and that combo is nice) but the MSI 890FXA-GD65 AM3 AMD 890FX is where yah need to be to smooth out that upgrade glide path. Pair it with an AMD Athlon II X3 450 Rana 3.2GHz. For roughly the same price as your combo from TD your future options are wide open, and you should be good for quite a long while.

Really? is the athlon II X3 going to perform better than my i3? the X3 doesnt have much of a cache on it? my i3 has a 4MB L3 cache and i dont even see an L3 cache on the X3.. or is the fact that it has 3 cores going to make up for that?
