Cant see wireless networks//...

i have a dell vostro laptop with windows 7./..
i can connect to the internet using a cable wire but it doesnt show any wireless networks....
Please tell what i have to do
no wireless network option shows when i type ncpa.cpl

Is the wireless switch on in the dell ? Is wireless switched on in the router ?
