Is a sandybridge cpu worth it?

I am looking to build a new pc.
Sandy bridge CPU are very expensive and so are their motherboards. Do you think a sandy bridge CPU performance is better than the other i3, i5, i7 CPU?

What is so great about sandy bridge CPU because it seems they are very popular and if you were building a new PC would you consider a sandy bridge CPU?

It depends...

If I were building a brand new computer today, I would get a 2500k. Currently I have an i5 750, and there's no reason to upgrade realistically speaking. With my current processor OC'd @ 4.0 ghz it's easily the fastest piece of hardware in my PC and upgrading would offer little improvement. Like I said, however, if building new I'd get the 2500k.

As stated it depends on your current setup.If you were to overclock first gen i7s you would not see much difference in performance in comparison to Sandy Bridge architecture i7. you would see a difference in performance however it would be insignificant.

Sandy Bridge cpus give the best performance right now and i dont know why you think they are expencive. The i5 2500k is at the price of an i5 760, but it can be overclocked to 5Ghz and beats even the 1000$ i7 980x (the hexacore ofc performs better in some tasks).

build an AMD system , it's ALOT cheaper ... i've got a 965 BE processor , and there isn't anything my computer can't do ....

the only thing you really need a suped up INTEL computer for is CS 5 ... and even at that you can still use AMD , it just takes a lot longer to render things ...

then if you want lasting power the only way to go is the 2600k set up overclocked much with a good overclocking motherboard.
